Andrew Sohn, Ph.D.
Co-Founder & President
A computer scientist at heart, Andrew Sohn recognized the enormous
opportunities presented by the Internet. As co-founder and President
of Pumpkin Networks, Dr. Sohn is responsible for directing the management
and vision of the company. Prior to founding the company, he was
a tenured associate professor in the Computer Science Department
of the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Throughout Dr. Sohn's
career, he has been an invitational scientist at various centers
that include The National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center
(NERSC), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, NASA Ames Research
Center and The Center of Excellence in Computer Science at the Electrotechnical
Laboratory of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan.
He has published works in parallel computing including dynamic load
balancing for distributed-memory multiprocessors, scalable parallel
dynamic partitioners and multithreaded distributed memory machines.
Dr. Sohn holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, and M.S. and Ph.D.
in Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California.
Kyusik Chung, Ph.D.
Co-Founder
Kyusik Chung co-founded Pumpkin Networks with Andrew Sohn to provide
the best scalable solution for Internet architecture. As President,
CEO and co-founder of Pumpkin Networks Korea, Dr. Chung focuses
on the product development and future scalability of the products.
He heads a team of 15 core developers and is the liaison between
Pumpkin Korea and its USA headquarters. Dr. Chung is an Associate
Professor at the School of Electronic Engineering at Soongsil University.
Prior to co-founding the company, Dr. Chung has been a visiting
scientist at the IBM Watson Research Center and IBM Almaden Research
Center. He has also worked in the Central Research Laboratory at
Lucky Goldstar Electronic Company.
Dr. Chung holds a B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Seoul National
University in Korea, an M.S. in Computer Science from Korea Advanced
Institute of Science & Technology, and an M.S. and Ph.D. in
Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California.
Eric Barszcz
Chief Technology Officer
As Chief Technology Officer of Pumpkin Networks, Eric Barszcz oversees
the technology strategies and product development for the company.
He joins the company with 16 years of experience at NASA Ames Research
Center in various departments including Computational Sciences Division
and Numerical Aerodynamic Simulation Systems Division (NAS). While
a member of the Computational Sciences Division, he was involved
in developing detection algorithms for Health and Usage Monitoring
Systems (HUMS) of helicopter transmissions. As a NAS computer scientist,
he was involved in the HPCCP (High Performance Computing and Communication
Program), the creation of the NAS Parallel Benchmarks, and parallel
implementations of computational fluid dynamic programs. As one
of the HPCCP related activities, Mr. Barszcz was responsible for
the planning, research and development of system software for workstation
clusters at NAS. He was jointly responsible for creating the NAS
Parallel Benchmarks for which the team received NASA Ames' H. Julian
Allen award for the best technical paper. Throughout Mr. Barszcz's
career, he has implemented and optimized several computational fluid
dynamic programs on a wide variety of parallel platforms. He has
authored book chapters, journal articles and other works.
Mr. Barszcz holds a B.A. in Chemistry, a B.S. in Computer Science
and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mathematics from the University of
Rhode Island. He is currently working on his dissertation for his
Ph.D. from the Computer Engineering department at the University
of California, Santa Cruz.
